Biography

Dr. Jaikumar Velayudham is an accomplished psychiatrist, clinician, and educator with over 18 years of academic and clinical experience in psychiatry and mental-health education. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, where he is involved in postgraduate training, research guidance, and community mental-health initiatives.

A graduate of Madras Medical College, Dr. Velayudham earned his M.D. in Psychiatry from the Institute of Mental Health, Chennai, under the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. His professional background includes extensive service in public healthcare, psychiatric research, and private clinical practice.

Dr. Velayudham has contributed numerous publications in national and international journals, including studies on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance use, and the psychosocial well-being of transgender populations. He has co-authored research projects related to HIV among marginalized groups and has presented widely at professional conferences such as ANCIPS and TANPSYCON. His authored works include both academic and motivational books, as well as essays on addiction, mental health, and medical humanities.

He is an active member of the Indian Psychiatric Society, Indian Medical Association, and the Indian Neuropsychiatry Association. His contributions have been recognized with several honors, including the Medical Excellence Award (2015) and multiple commendations from state and institutional authorities.
