Biography

Chiara Pisana is a Biologist and PhD candidate at the University of Catania (Italy), specializing in food safety and dairy microbiology. Her doctoral research, titled “Cheese Food Safety: Biocontrol Systems through Bacteriophages and Active Compounds,” focuses on developing innovative biocontrol systems using antimicrobial compounds and bacteriophages to enhance the safety and quality of traditional fresh cheeses.

She is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Poland) under the CORE Organic “Early Career Researchers Mobility Grant 2025/2026.” Her work integrates advanced technologies to create postbiotic- and bacteriophage-based preservation systems targeting major pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus cereus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Chiara’s previous professional experience includes conducting chemical and microbiological analyses of dairy products and feed at CoRFiLaC (Ragusa) and Centro Bios (Modica). She earned her Master’s degree in Biology with honors from the University of Perugia and has co-authored a scientific publication on traditional Sicilian cheeses.
