Biography

Dr. J. Yungar is a distinguished neurologist and military medical officer with an extensive background in clinical, academic, and military service. He currently holds leadership roles at Merrillville Plaza Surgical Center, Broadwest Surgical Center, and NW Regional Surgery Center in Merrillville, IN. His decades-long career in neurology and interventional pain management spans several hospitals and clinics across the U.S. and the UK.

In the military domain, Dr. Yungar serves as a Colonel in the U.S. Veterans Reserve Corps (US VRC) and has held multiple command and advisory positions in the Indiana Guard Reserve (INGR). He has also supported critical missions during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in delivering PPE across Indiana. His qualifications include advanced military emergency response and leadership training, as well as service on medical training and advisory boards.

Academically, Dr. Yungar has taught at prestigious institutions including Harvard Medical School, Temple University, Medical College of Pennsylvania, and currently serves at Dominican University’s Borra College of Health Sciences. He holds multiple degrees across medicine, theology, literature, and ethics from institutions such as London University, Harvard, and Brandeis University.

Dr. Yungar has been honored with numerous awards, including the Sagamore of the Wabash, Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Fellowship, and multiple SGAUS commendations. His community contributions include lectures, weekly classes on hermeneutics and biblical studies, and active involvement in interfaith and ethical education. He is also affiliated with several military and professional organizations and serves on various advisory boards.
