Genomics is revolutionized by third-generation sequencing technologies, including Oxford Nanopore and PacBio platforms, which offer long-read sequencing for comprehensive genome analysis. The Human Pangenome Project is expanding genomic references beyond a single genome, addressing ethnic diversity in genetic research. Genomic data is now used extensively in personalized medicine, particularly in oncology, where tumor profiling guides targeted therapy.

Transcriptomics provides insights into gene activity by analyzing RNA transcripts. Single-cell and spatial transcriptomics have become critical in identifying cell states and spatial organization in tissues. Recent applications include mapping tumor heterogeneity and immune cell infiltration in cancer, as well as decoding brain development and pathology in neurological disorders.
Proteomics, the study of the full protein set expressed in a cell, is advancing with improvements in mass spectrometry sensitivity and resolution. AI-assisted proteome prediction (e.g., AlphaFold) now allows researchers to model protein structures accurately. Proteomics is widely used in biomarker discovery for diseases such as Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disorders, and cancers.
